THREE STEP SOLUTION TO PLASTIC MENACE
A. One time use Plastics/styrofoam and cutlery
B. Plastic water bottles
C. Plastic packaging
All these plastics end up in (either) drains (or) land fills (or) in the water bodies like ponds, wells, lakes, rivers or seas (or) burnt up as piles in every neighbourhood (or) at landfills.
A. One time use Plastics
- Champaign greatly and widely the slogan “Carry your bag”
- One time plastic covers should be replaced by either paper or cloth bags.
- This is successfully being done in malls and branded shopping complexes and outlets.
- The same should be widely enforced in the petty shops, general markets, small stores.
- The one time plastic manufacturing should be seized.
- Plastic and styrofoam water glasses, coffee/tea cups and cutlery should be strictly banned.
- Plastic and styrofoam cutlery should be replaced by sustainable material
B. Plastic water bottles
- Water packaging for a onetime use should be only for emergency.
- Civilians should be asked to use Metallic bottles and buy water on a filing basis from vendors.
- The water vendors should be forced to adopt can based water vending to customers, so that they buy only water, fill it in their own bottles.
- Packing cool drinks in onetime usage bottles should be stopped strictly.
- The businesses like coke/pepsi/miranda etc., should start using alternative packaging avoiding plastic bottles.
C. Plastic packaging
- Hotel industry should stop packing food in plastic/styrofoam. This is hazardous.
- The confectionaries packaging the food items should gradually switch to non plastic based packaging.
WHY NO PLASTIC
- They don’t decompose
- Producing as well as recycling is full of emission.
- Effective plastic Recycling is a Myth
- Burning trash containing plastic/styrofoam is hazardous to health. Dangerous to the ecosystem. Ozone depletes.
- Water bodies become carcinogenic (cancer causing) when plastic fills are dumped into them and permanently damage the soil and water.
- Such polluted water bodies are the cause for mass extinction of aquatic beings.
- Fishes are proven to contain plastic traces.
- Hot food in plastic containers are cancerous.
- Dumping wastes into villages cause smell and spread deceases.
- Loitering plastic covers and plastic trash affect agriculture
Conclusion:
- Plastic burning is not a solution.
- Plastic can’t be effectively recycled. Its elimination is the only solution.
- Countries are banning plastic cutlery, onetime usage bags etc., We should march towards such plastic free initiatives.
- There is 13 Billion plastic and related wastes in the ocean. We should stop. Hard stop.
